Essentials for move-in and daily life
Furnished rooms—all utilities included
Every room comes equipped with an extra-long twin bed and mattress, desk and chair, bookshelf, and clothing storage for each student. All utilities—electricity, water, trash, and high-speed internet—are covered in your housing rate, so you can focus on campus life, not extra charges.
Fast internet & streaming for your devices
Fast, reliable connection in every room. Plus, stream TV and movies anywhere with Xfinity on Campus and Max. Select “ResWiFi” to connect and login using your CruzID and Gold password. Need help? ResNet Support staff are available to help troubleshoot connection issues.
Dining halls, cafés, markets, and more
With UCSC Dining locations across campus—including five all-you-care-to-eat dining halls, cozy cafés, grab-and-go markets, and late-night spots—there’s always somewhere to fuel up. Enjoy fire-baked pizza, generous salad bars, vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options, and fresh pastries from our campus bakery.
The SlugCard—your passport to campus life
The SlugCard is your official UCSC student ID—it gives you access to campus libraries, recreation facilities, dining halls, and Santa Cruz County Metro buses, and may serve as your room key. Submit your student ID photo by the deadline and you can pick up your SlugCard when you move in!
Mail & package room
Students living on campus get access to a mailbox for regular mail. Each college also offers a secure mail room—you’ll receive an email when packages arrive, and you can pick them up during mailroom hours.
24-hour laundry facilities
All residential facilities are equipped with washers and dryers, open 24-hours—you’ll need your student ID card to access the laundry room. Bring your own liquid laundry detergent (no pods!) and pay using the CSC GO mobile app.
Safety & support
Controlled building access & lockout assistance
Entry via student ID card or brass key for resident security. If you ever get locked out, help is available:
- During office hours, visit your college office to check out a lockout key.
- In the evening or early morning, call the RA on duty for assistance.
- Late at night, call a Residential Community Service Partner (RCSP) staff member.
Maintenance and repairs
Need something fixed? Maintenance staff are available for repairs in student rooms and throughout the residential buildings. If you have a maintenance issue in your room or apartment, submit a “CruzFix” request and we’ll take it from there.
Safe Ride program
A safe, reliable way to get around the residential campus at night, with free rides available 7 days/week.

Live-in professionals and student leaders are part of your community—they’re ready to answer questions, mediate roommate issues, and connect you with campus resources.

Study rooms & computer labs
Reservable and drop-in spaces are available for quiet focus or group collaboration. Computer labs across campus offer access to computers, printers, and specialized software—and most are available 24/7.
Events & programs
Enjoy everything from campus traditions like Cornucopia and College Nights to live concerts under the redwoods at the Quarry Amphitheater.
Scenic spaces to relax & recharge
Unwind with ocean views, redwood forests, and open meadows. Stroll through community gardens, stop by the Porter Koi Pond, or explore the UCSC Farm and Alan Chadwick Garden for a peaceful change of pace.
BCycle e-bike docks
Hop on a BCycle e-bike at any of our on-campus docks for a fast, sustainable way to get around UCSC and Santa Cruz. Students are eligible for a significantly discounted annual BCycle membership with unlimited 60-minute e-bike trips for a full year.
