About residential damage charges
At UC Santa Cruz, residents are responsible for any damage or excessive cleaning beyond normal wear and tear. Following your move-out inspection—or any other time damage is discovered—we’ll assess charges based on the type and extent of the work required.
You won’t be billed for normal wear-and-tear or for issues documented on your move-in inspection form. If you encounter maintenance issues while living in university housing, please submit a CruzFix request immediately, and our maintenance staff will handle all necessary repairs.

Residential Damage Charges 2025-26
If your final inspection identifies cleaning needs, repairs, or replacements, the following rates will apply:

| Tier 3 Residence Halls – no cleaning done by resident | $28/hr/student up to $61/hr/worker |
| Tier 1 Apartments – significant cleaning required | $28/hr/student up to $61/hr/worker |
| Tier 2 Apartments – extensive cleaning required | $28/hr/student up to $61/hr/worker |
| Tier 3 Apartments – no cleaning done by resident(s) | $28/hr/student up to $61/hr/worker |
