Bistro by the Bay

Bistro by the Bay - A huge success for 375 lucky meal plan ticket holders.

After the selection process (first come first serve to get on the interest list) students were shuttled down to the Seymour Marine Discovery Center for an evening of coastal cuisine, featuring many local organic products. This sustainabilty dinner provides the opportunity to interact with over 10 campus organizations who are active in promoting sustainable living practices on our campus.

The variety in the menu selections amazed everyone. Food stations were set-up throughout the center including two outdoor patios with grilled salmon and steak. An Ice carving demonstration was provide by our own Bill Prime, Manager College Nine/Ten Dining Hall. Our student band played bluegrass and guests enjoyed the rhythms as they explored the various educational stations and touch tanks while strolling the facility.

Several surprises awaited students...not only were there chocolate fondue stations with organic strawberries and clever seahorse cookies and best of all..Cafe la Vie with their incredible raw food delicacies and fruit carving demo, but then the shuttle service made a last minute substitution for a disabled bus and sent out a stretch Hummer limo to shuttle students to and from campus!

On-line surveys were sent to all 375 students and our results were over-the-top.. (well maybe the e-mail glitch which sent 5 e-mails announcing the event was not well received...) High-5's were given across the board! Comments ranged from:

"Best event I've ever been to at UCSC and I'm a senior"...to... "Everything was great..great hospitality..great people....great food!"

Congratulations to Mark Bellinger, winner of the drawing for the I-Pod! Thank you to everyone who completed a survey and added your own on-line "blog comments" to help us kick it up even more for future events.
